This is definitely happening. I got this sketchbook from a friend here in Japan who remains to be unnamed. She challenged me to do this BIG BADASS SKETCHBOOK CHALLENGE which is simply the SKETCHBOOK SLAM CHALLENGE (#sketchbookslam) that has a lot of the artists on all forms of social media going. Basically, its a challenge to fill this 600 page 8×10 sketchbook in one month. I see a lot of the finished sketchbook tours on youtube, instagram and facebook and I thought “WOW!” is that actually possible?
However, since I have a life and I think it would be more productive for me if I can do this challenge without killing my hand. I decided to do things a little differently.

After a long time of not drawing ( well technically just a couple of days), I managed to crank out this guy on my new set up. It has just been a few days but I feel like I have to get used to drawing again.
I love Baby Groot. There is just something about him that makes me want to cuddle this plant! The challenge here was trying to render him in my style and getting the tones right. Since he is a tree basically, I have to render him like I would do wood. Also, I did this on almost copy paper like substance so I dont have that much leverage with wet media. So Groot was done in pencil, colored pencils and zig multibrush pens.
It’s a Bird! It’s a plane. OMG Marikit is drawing a DC Character other than Flash and WONDERWOMAN! It’s SUPERMAN!
The Sketchtember theme today was COMIC BOOK HERO so who is the quintessential hero? SUPERMAN. I decided it because I just want to draw some classic superhero and really concentrate on how I can render it. And Lo and behold, I could actually draw the classic Reeves Superman!
You can see the speedpaint process below to see how I drew this classic Man of Steel! I used the bargue process of using general huge shapes first and filling it in, its been working pretty well for me, but I guess– MORE HOURS and More Practice. PLUS, I do think that I need to start rendering out bigger and completed works than sketches. So Up , up and AWAY!!
